Angel Herring has been an award-winning elementary school teacher for 20 years and has a Masters degree in technology, along with many other educational certificates.
She holds several educational certifications and has won many awards for teaching such as the Red Apple award from KHOU and the Educator of the Year from the Children's Museum of Houston.
She took up sewing after her father passed away in 2017, because she wanted to make a quilt of his clothes. He previously helped her pick them.
In November 2023, she won 1st place in the Novice category at the Hempstead Quilt Show for the quilt called, "My Best Furry Friend" which was made for the beloved Gizmo the human dog. She sewed the entire QUILT on her Singer 222 Featherweight made in 1957. She also did the free motion quilting on it as well. Click HERE for photos and details.
In November 2024, she was the Featured Quilter at the Hempstead Quilt Show. At the show she displayed various attachments along with showcasing demos on how they work to create things like shoe laces using the Bias Binder.
She is passionate about all vintage items, especially the Singer Featherweight. Her hobbies include spending time thrifting and shopping in antique stores with her husband and Gizmo (her fur baby), sewing, crafting, and sharing her knowledge with others.
This was my first Featherweight, "Wilma". I plugged it into my truck to see if it worked! I was over the moon thrilled with this "new to me" machine!
I love all things that are vintage from clothes to furniture and pin cushions to sewing machines. My favorite color is purple. My favorite stores are thrift stores and any good garage sales.
My little side kick is Gizmo the Human Dog and who is willing to keep me company during any of my sewing creations.
The pillow pouf below is a class that I teach at local quilt shops. Let me know if you are interested in having this class at your location. It is a day of fun with a Dresden 22.5 degree ruler!
I like working on small projects such as the quilted jeans, upcycling clothings, quilted jacket, personalized quilted shoes, jelly roll rugs, quilted chairs, and the list continues. I have a graduate degree in technology and love using tech when possible. During the school year, I am a second grade teacher at the local school district and love teaching the little ones. They are full of surprises and keep me on my toes.
During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with Gizmo and my husband. We all like sewing, crafting, teaching Featherweight maintenance classes, being vendors at quilt shows, and collecting autographs of famous people such as country music stars.

Made on a 222 Singer Featherweight.
Made with a Featherweight also!
Each block has a meaning to me! (These blocks were made on another vintage machine, Singer 301.)
